Depenbusch was director of U.S. Operations for NeuroVision, Inc. He previously served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation where he mentored more than 20 technology start-ups. Prior to this term he served in the role of CEO and Country Manager for Catalyst Lighting Group and Euronet World Wide, respectively. He is experienced as a team member of a top ten company as listed by Deloitte and Touche as a fast 500 company and overseeing the public listing of companies. Depenbusch has a Masters and Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Kansas.
Hrinya has more than 20 years of software technology experience in financial management, strategic planning, and operations. Most recently Mr. Hrinya was Chief Financial Officer of Xenometrics and prior to that Entrepreneur in Residence for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation. Previous experience includes VP of Finance at Flexbridge Technologies, a startup networking, file-sharing and online storage company and Bristol Technology, an Inc. 500 and Connecticut Fast 50 company, as VP of Finance and Controller. Hrinya holds a B.S. in Finance and Information Systems from the Pennsylvania State University. He is an active angel investor and sits on various advisory and board capacities.
Jalenak was the Director of Software Engineering at Motorola's Netopia facility in Lawrence, Kan. Previously, Mr. Jalenak led the development and support of a leading edge toxicology reporting system for LabOne, Inc., in Lenexa, Kan. Jalenak has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Wichita State University, and currently serves on the executive board for the Lawrence Technology Association.
Mr. Brendan B. Sheil
Chief Commercial Officer
Mr Sheil has a 19 year history in sales and marketing in Ophthalmology developing relationships and overseeing the sales and strategic development of various ophthalmic products worldwide.
Most recently, Mr. Sheil was Vice President of Commercial Operations of the Americas for Bausch and Lomb Surgical. Prior to this role he was Executive Director of Bausch and Lomb's U.S. Refractive Business.
In his senior roles, he developed various go to market strategies and successfully implemented these strategies with internal and external sales operation teams. He has been a recipient of various accolades for his achievements and is a speaker on product implementation strategies and practice development.
Mr. Sheil holds a Bachelors Degree in Business from Iowa State University and sits in an advisory role for various established and start-up ophthalmic companies.
Daniel Durrie, MD
Founder, President and CEO of Durrie Vision Center
Kansas City ophthalmologist Daniel S. Durrie, MD is the leader of the Durrie Vision refractive surgery team. With more than 30 years experience in refractive and corneal surgery, he has been a pioneer in procedures to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Durrie has participated in numerous clinical studies and has performed more than 40,000 refractive surgery procedures. He has served as medical monitor for several excimer laser studies and has been an investigator for various others. He continues to review refractive surgical techniques and analyze clinical study data. Dr. Durrie trains surgeons from around the world on new surgical techniques.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Durrie has worked with a number of "start-up" companies. He has served on advisory boards, working with these companies to develop a business plan, acquire venture capitol for operating expenses, and even participated in the eventual sales/mergers. He currently serves on advisory boards of 6 companies, and is a member of the Board of Directors of another.
Dr. Durrie's scientific articles and papers have appeared in numerous professional medical publications. He serves on the editorial board for Ocular Surgery News (Section Editor), The Journal of Corneal and Refractive Surgery, Review of Ophthalmology and Refractive Eyecare for Ophthalmologists. Dr. Durrie has given hundreds of presentations for professional organizations on 4 continents.
Dr. Daniel Durrie received his medical doctorate and completed his residency at the University of Nebraska. He completed a fellowship in corneal surgery at the Filkins Eye Clinic in Omaha. Dr. Durrie is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He serves as Clinical Professor and Director of Refractive Surgery Services at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
John D. Hunkeler, MD
Founder, President and CEO of Hunkeler Eye Institute, P.A.
John D. Hunkeler, MD has more than 30 years experience in cataract and lens implant surgery, corneal and refractive surgery. He has been and continues to be an active investor, advisor and mentor to several start-up and established companies. Notable participation includes AMO, Bausch and Lomb and Summit Technology.
Dr. Hunkeler has served as President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Boards of the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society, and the Eye Bank Association of America. He has also served on the Editorial Boards of Ocular Surgery News and Ophthalmology Times. In addition, Dr. Hunkeler has numerous scientific publications under his authorship.
Dr. Hunkeler received his Medical Degree from the University of Kansas, School of Medicine and completed his residency at the same location after serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Surgeon. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and serves as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas, School of Medicine.
Richard L. Lindstrom, MD
Founder, Attending Surgeon of Minnesota Eye Consultants
Richard L Lindstrom, M.D., founder and attending surgeon of Minnesota Eye Consultants and Adjunct Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota Department of Ophthalmology, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and internationally recognized leader in corneal, cataract, refractive and laser surgery. He has been at the forefront of ophthalmology's evolutionary changes throughout his career, as a recognized researcher, teacher, inventor, writer, lecturer and highly acclaimed physician and surgeon.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Dr Lindstrom completed his doctorate degree in medicine in 1972. He entered private practice in 1989, and has led the growth and expansion of Minnesota Eye Consultants serving as managing partner for 15 years. He is also medical director of TLC Vision, Sightpath Medical, and Refractec. He is Chief Medical Editor of the USA and International editions of Ocular Surgery News, which reaches 82,000 ophthalmologists worldwide.
Dr. Lindstrom served as President (2007-2008) of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons; he also serves on the Executive Committee and is the Chair of the Corporate gifts Committee for the ASCRS Foundation. He has in the past served as the President of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the International Intraocular Implant Club, and the International Refractive Surgery Club. He is the Global Education Liaison of the International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr Lindstrom holds over 30 patents in ophthalmology and has developed a number of solutions, intraocular lenses and instruments that are used in clinical practices globally. He serves on the Board of Directors of AcuFocus, Inc, TLC Vision, Occulogix, eyeonics, Refractec, the Minnesota Medical Foundation, and Inner City Tennis.
Dr Lindstrom serves on a number of Journal editorial boards, including JCRS, JRS, and Ophthalmic Surgery. He is the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of the U.S./Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology. He has co-edited seven books, published over 350 peer reviewed journal articles and 60 book chapters. His professional affiliations are extensive, including Liaison of the International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He is the recipient of numerous awards for distinguished service by national and international ophthalmology associations, including the LANS, Barraquer and the first lifetime achievement award from the International Society of Refractive Surgery in October 1995 and also was honoured with another lifetime achievement award in October 2002, the Binkhorst Lecture Award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Bausch and Lomb Lifetime Achievement Award, April 2005, and the Paton Award and NACT from the Eye Bank Association of America.
