Stargardt eye disease

Stargardt is an inherited disease which influences the retina.Stargardt disease causes vision loss during childhood, adolescence and in some forms, vision loss may be noticed only later in adulthood. Usually, vision loss progresses slowly over time to 20/200 or worse. Stargardt disease is also known as Stargardt macular dystrophy, juvenile macular degeneration, or fundus flavimaculatus.Symptom include slow loss of central vision in both eyes. People with Stargardt disease might notice gray or hazy spots in the center of their vision, or difficulty adjusting when moving from light to dark environments. Eyes may be more sensitive to bright light. Some people might develop color blindness later in the progress of the disease. In addition, Stargardt disease can have a significant emotional impact. Stargardt is diagnosed by the following tests: Visual field testing, Color Testing, fundus photo Electroretinography (ERG), Optical coherence tomography (OCT).Currently there is no treatment for Stargardt disease. People who suffer from the disease are encouraged to wear dark glasses and hats when out in bright light. Cigarette smoking , second-hand smoke and  high dose vitamin a supplements should be avoided.Low vision aids can be helpful for many daily tasks, aids such as simple hand-held lenses to more sophisticated electronic devices. Many researches are taking place in order to explore the biology and genetics of Stargardt disease, and much research is done in the field of gene therapy and stem cell-based therapies. RevitalVision eye exercises offers a treatment in which the brain is trained to see better. Specific stimulations (Gabor patches) stimulate specific areas in the brain so that it can maximize its efficiency from the information received from the eye.More than 85% of patients who were candidates for this treatment and completed its course improved their visual acuity by 2.5 rows and showed 100% improvement in their contrast sensitivity. RevitalVision eye exercises train the brain to see better without the use of medications, without the necessity of surgery and with no side effects. These eye exercises have proven their efficacy clinically and scientifically. Press here for more information on RevitalVision treatment for stargardt.    Back to Blog page

Everything you wanted to know about cataract

What is cataract? Cataract is changes in the clarity of the natural lens as a result of aging. The lens, which is located between the iris and the retina, consists of proteins which maintain the clarity of the lens, with aging the structure of these proteins change and effect the clarity of the lens. What age does Cataract appear?Cataract appears with natural aging. After the age of 50 is when symptoms of cataract might appear. symptoms include a variety of complaints including blurred vision, glare, difficulty with night driving, cataract is compared often to vision through a foggy windshield of a car. As cataract continues to develop, vision becomes cloudy and stronger glasses or contact lenses will no longer improve sight. cataract surgery is considered when visual symptoms begin to develop. Cataract Surgery Recovery Timecataract surgery recovery and improvement in symptoms is usually felt immediately. However, many patients have difficulty adapting to the new vision, difficulties such as poor night vision, difficulty detecting stains on clothes or dishes, difficulty distinguishing facial expressions and a need of more lighting to read. These difficulties usually disappear after an adjustment period ranging from a few weeks to many months. The difficulty in vision results from a significant decrease in the contrast sensitivity, and of the need of neuroadaptation after cataract surgery. How to improve vision naturally?RevitalVision eye exercises improve contrast sensitivity post cataract surgery by over 150% on average and help to adjust to the new vision, by influencing the vision processing ability in the brain. This goal is reached by Revitalvision eye exercises, practiced at home in front of the computer. These last approximately 30 minutes and are done under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist. RevitalVision therapy is clinically and scientifically based. Click here for more information on RevitalVision post cataract treatment. Back to Blog page

Cataract Surgery Recovery Time

Vision post cataract surgery improves within a few days and clear vision is restored. Many people suffer from difficulty adjusting to the clear vision after cataract surgery. Neural adaptation is the process that takes place as the brain adapts to changes in the visual information as a result of the clear lens which was implanted during the surgery and influences the optical system. These difficulties include difficulty reading after cataract surgery, night vision after cataract surgery, eye strain after cataract surgery. These symptoms usually disappear after an adjustment period ranging from a few weeks to many months. Revitalvision is a method which improves post cataract symptoms and help to adjust to the new vision, by influencing the vision processing ability in the brain. This goal is reached by Revitalvision eye exercises, practiced at home in front of the computer. These last approximately 30 minutes and are done under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
